Peanuts...

I just bought my first huge bag of packing peanuts (recycled). I had a package to ship out for my etsy store - so instead of buying a small bag - I decided to go for the economy size.

It was really funny getting this in my car - I just had to take a pic last night after I got home. The bag is just about as tall as me!

random thoughts monday....

Just a few random thoughts::

**I am excited about going to this auction next week at Bill's Dish Barn. That place has been closed for years and years. My mom and I have planned a "road trip" which is funny because it is only about 20 minutes away. I don't really know what to expect - but I am excited about all the old fiesta.

**I am also trying to decide what to get my sister for her 19th birthday. I was thinking about this Chi flat iron. I don't know if she wants one, but she likes to use mine - and I think that is a pretty safe bet. I would really like to take her on a trip - but I am not sure if our schedule and wallets permit that at this time of year! I will think of something.

** So excited that my mother made her first sale on ETSY. She sold an adorable cat magnet made from a recycled diet coke can. I love her magnets and she does such a good job making them and I do such a good job drinking the diet coke.

** Wondering if anyone else has as much fun as I do with the Uline catalog. I received one in the mail last week - and I want one of everything. Ok that may be weird. But I do recommend that everyone request one of their catalogs and at least give it a try.

What random thoughts are running through your head?

Weekend find...

This weekend I had the greatest find...
When I saw this vase - I knew it was cool and German - and I had to have it.

After I got home and did some research I found out that it is a Rosenthanl Pollo vase circa 1971 is designed by Tapio Wirkkala - a Finish designer.

It even had the box. It is in great shape and totally cool. I am so excited. I am still contemplating if I should put it in my etsy shop.

I was tagged...

I was tagged by Lisa's Retro Style! I am so excited. You should all visit her blog - it is so fun.

So here are the rules
1. Link to your tagger and list these rules on your blog.
2. Share 7 facts about yourself on your blog - some random, some weird.
3. Tag 7 people at the end of your post by leaving their names as well as links to their blog.
4. Let them know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

My random facts...

1.) I had a crimp perm in 5th grade.
2.) One of my all time favorite movies is "Footloose."
3.) I still have a baby tooth.
4.) I love sharpies and almost always use them as my primary writing utensil.
5.) I went to boarding school from age 12 to age 18.
6.) It drives me nuts when people use double negatives.
7.) I thought “Squirt the Hurt” was the real name of the antiseptic spray my mom used when I was a kid.

I am not sure who to tag... I will think about it and hopefully get back to you.

Sarah Jane...

I scanned in a few pictures of my great-grandmother, Sarah Jane. There are none of Bentley yet. Hopefully my mother will find a good one.

This one she is approximately 4 years old.

I don't know how old she is in this picture - but I am guessing that she is a teenager or in her early 20's.

This picture was taken in 1985 - this is how I remember my Grandmamma.

I really adored her. I miss her.

Happy Birthday to me..

Today is my 32nd birthday! Wow it is so hard to believe that that is my age. I have never been this old. Ever.
Ok - so I was only 29 in this picture... but its the best one I could find on my computer.

I remember when my mother was my age now - and she seemed so old to me at the time. She was a real grownup it at 32. It's funny how I don't feel like a real grown up yet. I guess it is all perspective.

I had my first birthday wishes from my mother - late last night. She sent me a really sweet email. I also had a Birthday email this morning from my boss at 6:45am. Wow - he is really on top of things.

I am heading to lunch in just a bit with some friends so that should be fun as well. So far it is a great day. Now if I just had some of my Grandma's red velvet cake .....

My First Sale!!

I am super excited!! I made my first etsy sale at Sarah Jane and Bentley. I sold this fun solar tea pitcher.

I love it.

etsy find..

I love, I mean love this vintage Shafford napkins holders from SeaGlass Vintage on etsy. They remind me of my great-grandmother, Sarah Jane. These are super cool and I just may have to buy them. I know I shouldn't, but I just may.

My birthday is next week after all.

All I need now are some cool, cloth napkins. hmm..

Sun tea..

Being from the South, a staple around my house growing up was sweet tea. I remember my mother occasionally making sun tea which I thought was lots of fun. She actually brewed the tea using solar energy out on our porch.

When I found this jar, it brought back memories of my mother's sun tea. She didn't have this solar tea jar - but it is still a nostalgic find.
solar tea anyone?

Now it my etsy store...

newbie...

I am rather new to esty and I am still trying to figure out what works, when to list, how to tag, pricing, etc. There is so much to learn. I have spent some time in the etsy storque - they have pretty cool resources there.

I am also thinking of advertising although I am a little hesitant. I think I need more inventory in my shop and I think I need to nail down some packing and shipping materials. I don't know how to make my packages cute with vintage items yet - I am still working on that one. I was thinking about including a button (flair) in each package. I don't have a button maker - even though I desperately want one. They are a little pricey - $150 on ebay - so I think I will get a coworker at my real job to make some for me since he has one. Maybe he will give me a dealio.

I decided to bite the bullet and add international shipping even though I am intimidated by customs forms and knowing exactly how much to charge. Does anyone have any pointers?

I also want to order MOO cards - but I think I need to have more inventory for that as well. I have lots of new things to add - I just need to take the pics. I mean by the time I get home from work - the daylight is gone and all my pics look horrible with artificial light.

I guess I am off to do more research on all these unknowns.

sweet quails

I added these sweet quails to my etsy shop today. I love them and secretly hope no one buys them. I think they are perfect - I mean you can use white items anywhere.

I did a little research and I think they are made by Otagiri, though I am not sure. What do you think?

Sweet Quails

Sarah Jane & Bentley

I recently started my first etsy store in which I am selling all things vintage. I had a difficult time deciding upon a name for my store. A store name is important -It becomes your brand. I thought of many names many of which included the word "vintage." I finally decided on " Sarah Jane and Bentley." Sarah Jane was my great-grandmother's name. She passed away when I was in the 8th grade - but she made quite and impression on me at a young age.

I loved to go to Grandmama's house. She always had such pretty things and she lived close to the mall. There was no mall in the small town that I grew up in - so the mall was a special treat for me. Grandmama would drive me to the mall on the brick streets of Augusta, Georgia in her 1964 Buick Skylark. It was the best. I would spend the days playing Price is Right with all her beautiful things - I was a regular Barker Beauty. At night she would let me stay up late and we would watch The Andy Griffith show and eat cream horns. Sometime my mother would let me stay for a couple of weeks at a time. It was always the highlight of my summers.

Grandmama had a little dog that she adored and his name was Bentley. I could think of no better name for my etsy shop; Sarah Jane and Bentley is was.
