little sister..vintage jewelry...
This is my little sister circa 1990 adorned with all kinds of vintage costume jewelry. Being about 13 at the time - I had no idea they were "vintage" - I just knew some old lady gave them to us to play dress up. All I wanted to do was dress up this cute little baby and take photos and she was always so cooperative.
We had so much fun playing taking fun pictures over the years.
..

Annie - It is your turn now. I can't wait.

she's here...
Wednesday, 9.16.09, my sweet angel-of-a-niece, Annie Hope was born. I've never been much of one for stealing things, but it took everything within me not to take her with me when I left the hospital. She really is a beautiful little girl.
My sweet sister was a total champion while she went through the almost 19-hour labor process - even though after almost and hour and a half of hard pushing - she ended up having a C-section. At 7:54pm Annie made her appearance. It was so precious and sweet.
Annie is so perfect in every way and so already adores her aunt Amanda. I was amazed how she looked at me when she was just about 15 minutes old - it is like she knew that I loved her. I am sure that she has heard her mother tell her about how crazy I am about her.
She weighed 8 lbs and 2 oz and 20.75 inches long. She has a head full of black hair - just like my sister did when she was born. I wish I had a newborn picture of my sister to post - I must scan one soon.
I am so thankful that both my sister and Annie are perfectly healthy and got to leave the hospital this afternoon. I cannot wait for a sleep over!
Annie - I love you to pieces - and you are welcome at my home anytime. I promise to be the best aunt. ever.

lakemont ga...
This old store in Lakemont, Ga was built by my great-grandparents and has become a historical landmark in Rabun County GA. My grandmother was raised in the apartment above the store, which my great uncle and aunt lived in until just a few years ago.
Next door - was the old Lakemont Post Office - where my great-grandmother was the postmater for several years. I know that I don't have all the facts straight and I am sure that my mother will correct me.

Lakemont Georgia is home to Lake Rabun which was built by Georgia Power around 1915 to hold water in reserve for hydroelectric plants to generate electricity for homes and businesses in Atlanta and north Georgia. Now Lake Rabun is a beautiful lake surrounded by many beautiful homes. Today as I browsing my Google reader I came across this post of a pretty wedding on Lake Rabun.

I love Lakemont Ga. I love the nostalgic smell of the trees and water.

the letter people...
How many of you learned to read with the letter people?
I did.
It seems like every week we would study a new letter. I remember when the class was on the letter "Y", the teacher asked us to bring something from home that started with the letter "Y". Guess what I brought to school at the suggestion of my grandmother - yep I brought Yeast. Oh my.
And this song has been stuck in my head since 1st grade and I was ecstatic to find this video on Youtube.
Am I the only one that remembers this?

a favorite...
This is one of my favorite movies...
I have always liked Marie Antoinette - well it started with high school French Class when we read "Les Miserables" and studied the French Revolution. The history fascinated me - During high school, I also read "The Queen's Confession" by Victoria Holt. I was sold - she was one of my favorite historical figures.
This movie's imagery is amazing - I love the soundtrack and costumes. It is perfect.Oh yeah - Kirsten Dunst is one of my favs too. Sofia Coppola did an incredible job with this film.
If only I could visit Versailles....maybe one day.

baby names....
Wow - it had definitely been awhile since I have posted here.
As some of you may know, my little sister is expecting a baby girl this September. She and I are both really excited that it is a girl... I mean what the heck do you do with a boy? And anyway girl clothes are so much funner.
I guess the real question is what she shall name the little one. I have sent her lists of names, but I think mine have been a little too exotic for her or her friend has a pet with the same name?
Here are some names I suggested::
Piper
Ellie (well I have a dog named Ellie which may deter her)
Breck
Bridgie
Penelope
Belle (Like Beauty and the Beast)
Davis (grandfather's middle name - she thinks it doesn't sound girly - ha - it's not)
Stella (Great-grandmother's name)
She liked Sarah at first - which is fine - a little common but good. Then she switched to Caroline Grace... or Caroline Iva or at least the first name was Caroline. I really like Caroline. However the latest name is now Annie.
Annie is good. I am sure that her little girl would make an adorable Annie.
But of course - she is not set on that name just yet and that is fine - she still has 7 weeks to decide.
Her baby shower was this past weekend - which was lots of fun and she really got a lot of things she needed for the baby. I was really happy for her. One of my sister's friends came and brought her some nice blankets and sheets from her Target registry. It was really sweet - but she also told my sister that she had another gift for her - A diaper bag. She said it wasn't ready though because she was having the baby's name - Annie - embroidered on it.
My sister said that her friend asked what she was naming the baby and she told her they were thinking about Annie, but that was it.
Now my sister is thinking that she HAS to name the baby Annie because of a diaper bag. I told her she didn't - I mean this child will have this name forever. Imagine telling your daughter you named her after a diaper bag? haha... I know that she will feel bad if she doesn't name her Annie because her friend got her this nice gift. She is confused. I think it is a wee bit odd that she got the embroidery before she was 100% set on a name.
Do you think she should name the baby Annie because of the bag? What does she tell her friend if she doesn't?
Do you have any fun name suggestions?
PS - I had a dream that my sister should name the baby Mildred and call her Millie. You see - Mildred is our grandmothers name. It is really kind of an old fashioned name, but not really cool old fashioned yet. hmm....
